Bayerischer Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra Principal Flutist Henrik Bije Solo Recital

On May 20th, at Seocho-gu Perridge Hall
Commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Carl Reinecke's Birth

Henrik Wiese, principal flutist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in Germany, will hold a solo recital on May 20th at Perigee Hall in Seocho-gu, Seoul.


This concert is organized to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of German composer Carl Reinecke (1824?1910). The first piece will be Reinecke's "Introduction and Allegro Appassionato," performed with piano and flute. The piano accompaniment will be provided by Professor Hirota Shunji.


Following "Introduction and Allegro Appassionato," Wiese will perform works by Isang Yun, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and George Enescu. The first piece of the second half will again be a work by Reinecke. He will perform one of Reinecke's best-known pieces, the flute sonata "Undine." The concert will conclude with a piece by Schubert.

Henrik Wiese was born in 1971 in Vienna, Austria, and grew up in Hamburg, Germany. He began playing the flute as a self-taught musician and studied under Professor Ingrid Koch-D?rnbrack at the Hamburg Music Academy and Professor Paul Meisen at the Munich National University of Music. In 1995, while studying at the Munich National University of Music, he was selected as the principal flutist of the Bavarian State Opera, and since 2006, he has served as the principal flutist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.


Henrik Wiese won the German Music Competition in 1995 and the Carl Nielsen Competition in 1998. In 2000, he placed second without a first prize at the German ARD Competition.


Before the solo recital, Henrik Wiese will also hold a masterclass at Sunhwa Arts High School starting at 10 a.m. on May 16th. Additionally, on May 23rd, he will participate as a soloist in a concert by the Gunpo Prime Philharmonic Orchestra at the Surihall of Gunpo Culture and Arts Center, performing two works by Reinecke: the Ballade for flute and orchestra and the third movement of the flute concerto.
