MS·OpenAI to Invest $100 Billion in Building AI Data Centers

On the 29th (local time), IT news outlet The Information cited three sources, reporting that senior executives from both MS and OpenAI are currently formulating such plans.

The core of the data centers being pursued by the two companies is the supercomputer. It is expected to house millions of server chips specially designed to run OpenAI's AI models. The project to build this data center is called 'Stargate.' It is said to be carried out over the next six years. The data center is designed to use different chips from multiple suppliers.

The $100 billion cost for this project is likely to be borne by MS. This budget scale is more than 100 times larger compared to the highest-level existing data centers. The Information explained that this indicates that massive investments will be made to build AI computing capacity in the future.

An MS spokesperson stated, "We are always planning the next generation of infrastructure innovations necessary to push the limits of AI capabilities." However, foreign media reported that they did not directly comment on the supercomputer construction plans.
