"Also Releases Video Saying 'No Tax Evasion'"
A Chinese woman in her 20s with 7.7 million followers attracted attention by paying 100 million yuan (approximately 18.5 billion KRW) in taxes.
Hong Kong media outlet South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported on the 29th (local time) that influencer 'Pan Yuren' from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in eastern China, paid a large amount of taxes. Pan Yuren is a beauty and cosmetics influencer active on China's video streaming platform Douyin, with 7.7 million followers within China.
The taxes Pan Yuren paid last year approached 100 million yuan. In a video on the 14th, she stated, "Paying taxes is everyone's duty," and claimed, "I do not engage in 'tax evasion' and always pay the full amount of taxes." China's highest income tax rate is 45%, and SCMP estimated that Pan Yuren's earnings last year could have exceeded 200 million yuan (approximately 37 billion KRW).
Recently, in China, there has been an increase in entertainers and influencers being expelled from the entertainment industry due to tax evasion allegations. The media suggested that strict monitoring by tax authorities may have also influenced Pan Yuren.
Previously, in 2021, Viya, known as the "Queen of Live Streaming," was fined nearly 200 billion KRW for tax evasion and suffered the humiliation of being removed from the market. Around the same time, popular actresses Pan Bingbing and Zheng Shuang were also fined hundreds of billions of KRW for tax evasion allegations.
At that time, Chinese state media reported that after the authorities' actions, film industry workers voluntarily paid taxes amounting to 11.553 billion yuan (approximately 2.146 trillion KRW).
Pan Yuren is an influencer who gained popularity through diet-related videos. After gathering followers, she expanded into fields such as fashion and beauty, generating enormous profits. She also sells skincare products directly through live streaming.
