Strategic Planning Officer... Likely to Explore Mid- to Long-Term Strategies Across Business Operations
Lee Seo-hyun, chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and younger sister of Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, is returning to the forefront of management as president of Samsung C&T after five years.
On the 29th, Samsung C&T announced that it would appoint Lee Seo-hyun, head of social contribution at Samsung Global Research and chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation, as president in charge of strategic planning. She will continue to serve as chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and as a member of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum's operating committee.
Samsung C&T's management approached President Lee Seo-hyun to recruit her for brand enhancement and future preparation, and she is reported to have accepted. She is expected to play a role in formulating mid- to long-term strategies across Samsung C&T’s businesses, including construction, trading, fashion, and resorts.
Samsung stated, "Based on her experience as president of Samsung C&T’s fashion division and head of management strategy at Cheil Worldwide, as well as her know-how in successfully managing Samsung’s cultural projects and social contribution fields, we expect her to contribute to enhancing Samsung C&T’s brand competitiveness."
Lee, the second daughter of the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, majored in design at Parsons School of Design in the United States. She joined Cheil Industries as head of the fashion research institute in 2002, became vice president in charge of management strategy for the fashion division at Cheil Industries in 2010, and later held positions such as president of management planning for the fashion division at Samsung Everland, head of management strategy at Cheil Worldwide, president of management planning for the fashion division at Samsung C&T, and head of the fashion division at Samsung C&T.
She stepped down from frontline management at the end of 2018 and has since served as chairman of the Samsung Welfare Foundation and as a member of the Samsung Museum of Art Leeum's operating committee. Since August 2022, she has been appointed as an advisor to the CSR Research Office at Samsung Global Research, overseeing the group’s social contribution activities.
