Two vessels moored at Yugu Port in Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam, sank, prompting the Coast Guard to carry out emergency containment operations.
According to the Sacheon Coast Guard Station, at around 4:14 a.m. on the 29th, a report was received that a 0.77-ton coastal multipurpose fishing vessel and a 4.72-ton coastal trap fishing vessel moored at Yugu Port in Namhae-gun were sinking underwater.
It was understood that an angler fishing nearby reported to the Coast Guard after hearing a thud and witnessing the vessels sinking.
Some fuel oil leaked as a result of the accident, but there were no casualties as no crew members were on board the two vessels.
The Sacheon Coast Guard, dispatched to the scene, installed rope-type absorbents and carried out containment operations to prevent marine pollution, and is investigating the exact cause of the accident.
A representative of the Sacheon Coast Guard said, “We hope shipowners and captains regularly inspect vessels moored within ports and harbors to prepare for vessel flooding and sinking accidents.”
