Samdu Comprehensive Technology Co., Ltd. Donates 10 Million KRW Development Fund for 'Creative Talent Cultivation' to UNIST

Samdu Comprehensive Technology Co., Ltd. donated a development fund to UNIST to support the cultivation of creative talents.

UNIST (President Yong-Hoon Lee) held a development fund donation ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on the 27th at the UNIST Haedong Lounge with Young-Soo Choi, CEO of Samdu Comprehensive Technology.

On this day, Young-Soo Choi, CEO of Samdu Comprehensive Technology Co., Ltd. and director of the UNIST Development Foundation, donated 10 million KRW for the advancement of the UNIST Science×Technology×Arts×Society Research Center (STARTS Center).

This development fund is planned to be used as research funding for the STARTS Center and UIRP, UNIST’s representative undergraduate research program.

UNIST and Samdu Comprehensive Technology Co., Ltd. are holding a donation ceremony for the development fund.

Earlier in January, a team project exhibition by students who took an art special lecture at the STARTS Center was held. CEO Choi, who visited the exhibition, donated the fund with the hope of supporting the students’ continuous research activities.

CEO Choi said, “Although it is not a large amount, I hope it will help undergraduate research activities and that more interdisciplinary research fostering the humanities literacy of science and engineering students will be conducted.”

Young-Soo Choi donates more than 1% of his company’s annual sales to the local community every year and contributes 20-30% of his personal salary. He was the first in the Ulsan region to achieve the Triple Crown of high-value donors (Honor Society, Green Noble Club, Red Cross Honors Club).

Jung Woong-Kyu, head of the UNIST Development Fund Management Team, expressed gratitude, saying, “We thank CEO Young-Soo Choi for donating research funds to UNIST for nurturing creative talents,” and added, “The donated funds will be used carefully for undergraduate interdisciplinary research.”

Baek Kyung-Mi, director of the STARTS Center, stated, “This research fund will be used as research funding for the undergraduate research program (UIRP), and we will work hard with students to fulfill the purpose of the donation.”

The STARTS Center consists of seven on- and off-campus researchers from the fields of arts, humanities and social sciences, and engineering. Since last year, it has continued interdisciplinary discussions on science, technology, arts, and education for a ‘sustainable future community’ through a series of academic seminars.

They are promoting various exploratory interdisciplinary educational activities such as interdisciplinary research activities themed on water, research clubs for related educational platforms, and project-based course offerings.
