Leaders of domestic mobile carriers SK Telecom and LG Uplus have expressed a unified commitment to focusing on AI technology-centered businesses.


Yu Sang-yong, CEO of SKT, stated in an article on the company's 40th anniversary on the 29th, "AI is becoming a crucial topic worldwide," adding, "Having established an AI vision early on, SKT is advancing faster than anyone else as an AI company."


SKT was launched on March 29, 1984, under the name Korea Mobile Telecommunications, marking its 40th anniversary on this day.


CEO Yu emphasized, "With 40 years of history leading global innovative technologies in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry, accumulated capabilities, domestic and international partners who will face the future together, and a global AI company vision, we will open the future of the Republic of Korea."


He added, "The 'global AI company' we must pursue going forward is a new path no one has taken before," and expressed confidence, saying, "With our accumulated capabilities, global partnerships, and the deeply ingrained pioneer DNA, we are certain to successfully pioneer the unknown world of AI."

Hwang Hyun-sik, CEO of LG Uplus, shared the AI business blueprint during a town hall meeting held for employees on the 28th.


At the event themed 'The Era of AI Transformation, Our Company's AI·DX Strategic Direction,' CEO Hwang emphasized interdepartmental collaboration.


He said, "A company's AI capabilities are ultimately created through collaboration between departments that possess AI technology and those that want to use AI," adding, "It seems that this awareness is already shared. Let's grow confidently as one team into a specialized AI company."


CEO Hwang and other key executives of LG Uplus shared the strategic direction of the AI business at the event, along with examples of AI applications in their business.
