Enactment of the "Ordinance on Creating a Youth-Friendly City in Changwon-si"
Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam announced the "Ordinance on the Creation of a Youth-Friendly City in Changwon" on the 29th.
In response to the government’s announcement of the "Youth-Friendly City Promotion Plan" last December, the city enacted this ordinance to proactively establish an institutional foundation that could enable it to be selected as a youth-friendly city.
A "Youth-Friendly City" is a program operated by the Office for Government Policy Coordination. Starting this year, 3 to 5 local governments will be designated annually as youth-friendly cities, aiming to designate around 25 local governments by 2028 (averaging 1 to 2 per metropolitan local government). Local governments selected as youth-friendly cities will receive administrative and financial support for up to five years.
Additionally, the city plans to participate in the "consulting support" program conducted by the Office for Government Policy Coordination in the first half of this year, targeting local governments wishing to be designated as youth-friendly cities.
The ordinance includes provisions necessary for the city to efficiently promote the creation of a youth-friendly city, such as ▲conducting basic surveys and policy research ▲establishing deliberation and advisory bodies ▲providing financial support to project implementing organizations (groups) ▲carrying out public relations and education for citizens.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, stated, “With the newly enacted ‘Changwon Youth-Friendly City Creation’ ordinance and considering the resources available in the region and the circumstances faced by Changwon’s youth, we will establish customized youth policies.” He added, “We will concentrate all administrative efforts on making Changwon a city that attracts young people.”
