The Gyeongbuk Office of Education provides an annual support of 1.5 million KRW to households with two or more special education students in the province.
This project, the first and only one nationwide initiated by the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, aims to improve the educational environment for families with two or more children with disabilities, enhance the social adaptation abilities of disabled students, and promote stability in family life.
The support targets households with two or more special education students enrolled in public or private kindergartens, elementary, middle, high schools, or specialized courses within the province. As of March, there are 339 such households in the province.
The support funds can be used for various expenses such as purchasing school uniforms, gym clothes, textbooks, career and cultural experience fees, competition participation fees, exam fees, bathing expenses, hairdressing services, purchasing quarantine supplies, and diapers.
The support method involves families with two or more children with disabilities purchasing necessary items directly, then submitting receipts and supporting documents. The school reviews the support items and then allocates the budget to each household.
If parents do not prefer this method or find it difficult to purchase items directly, schools can also purchase the necessary items for disabled students and provide support.
Households residing in facilities for the disabled or those who do not wish to receive support are excluded from the program.
Lim Jong-sik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, “We will spare no administrative and financial support to provide detailed surveys and customized educational welfare services considering the characteristics of students in households with two or more disabled children.”
