'The Fool of the End' Released on April 26
Online video service (OTT) Netflix announced on the 29th that it will release the series 'Jongmal-ui Babo' on April 26.
'Jongmal-ui Babo' depicts the story of the world thrown into chaos and the people who survive until the end during the 200 days left until the collision between Earth and an asteroid. It is based on the novel of the same name by Japanese author Isaka Kotaro.
Director Kim Jin-min, who directed MBC dramas such as 'Shindon' (2005), 'Time Between Dog and Wolf' (2007), 'Road Number One' (2019), and Netflix series 'Extracurricular' (2020) and 'My Name' (2021), and writer Jung Sung-joo, who wrote JTBC dramas 'Secret Love Affair' (2014) and ' Heard It Through the Grapevine' (2015), are in charge of the script. Director Kim said, "It is a story not about a completely destroyed Earth, but just before that world comes. It contains the contemplation of how humans reveal themselves." Writer Jung explained, "It is the story of survivors who lived through the horrors of riots, looting, and civil war that began immediately after the announcement of the asteroid collision."
Actress Ahn Eun-jin leads the drama as 'Jin Se-kyung,' a middle school teacher who volunteers in the Child and Youth Department of the city hall after the asteroid incident and protects children in danger. Jeon Sung-woo plays 'Woo Seong-jae,' an assistant priest who cares for the congregation in place of the missing chief priest before the predicted end, and Kim Yoon-hye plays 'Kang In-ah,' a company commander of the Combat Support Battalion who roams the ruins of Ungcheon City for supply transport and maintaining order.
Actor Yoo Ah-in, recently indicted on drug use charges, had completed filming as a key character in the series. Issues arose during post-production, creating a difficult situation. Netflix did not mention Yoo Ah-in's role in the press release, omitting the character description, but included his name in the cast list.
On the same day, a Netflix representative told Asia Economy, "Yoo Ah-in appears as a major character in the story, and to minimize disruption to the flow, the director, writer, and production team held extensive discussions and proceeded with re-editing and post-production."
Yoo Ah-in was indicted on charges of using more than seven types of drugs, including propofol, marijuana, cocaine, ketamine, zolpidem, midazolam, and alprazolam, from September 2020 to March last year. He is also accused of instructing the destruction of evidence and forcing acquaintances to smoke marijuana. On the 5th, at the Seoul Central District Court, Judge Yoo Dong-gyun of Criminal Division 24 sentenced doctor Shin to three years in prison and requested a fine of 270,000 won in a trial for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances).
