Securing Biological Sovereignty Through Diverse Class Participation
The National Honam Biological Resources Center under the Ministry of Environment (Director Ryu Tae-cheol) announced on the 29th that it will hold a commemorative event for World Water Day and the 79th Arbor Day on the 4th of next month at the Goha-do area with the message of "The Value of Water and Trees."
This event was prepared to raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity conservation together with local residents, and about 200 people including staff, the Seommoa Win-Win Volunteer Group, volunteers, and local children will participate in various activities such as tree planting, collection of agricultural waste in the Goha-do area, and small stream cleanup activities.

In particular, the event of planting the climate change biological indicator species, Dajeongkeumnamu, and hanging carbon-neutral hope messages written by children on tree branches is expected to be a meaningful opportunity for all participants to wish for a green powerhouse Korea.
Climate-sensitive Biological Indicator Species (CBIS) refer to species that show clear or expected changes in seasonal activities or population sizes due to climate change, and are continuously surveyed and managed as indicators. In July 2010, the Ministry of Environment and the National Institute of Biological Resources designated 100 species for this purpose.
Director Ryu Tae-cheol stated, “I feel rewarded that this event will be a chance for children, the future owners of biological sovereignty, to directly plant and nurture trees and learn the importance of biodiversity.”
Anyone can participate in this event through the 1365 Volunteer Portal, and the application period is until the 2nd of next month.
