Korea Seven Completes Merger with Lotte CVS 711
Korea Seven, the operator of convenience store Seven-Eleven, announced on the 28th that it has practically completed the integration of Ministop, which has been underway since May 2022. Prior to this, Korea Seven merged Lotte CVS711 (the corporation operating Ministop) on the 20th.
Korea Seven acquired Korea Ministop from Japan's Ministop in April 2022. According to the contract at that time, the domestic Ministop brand could be used until March of this year. Accordingly, Korea Seven officially began the brand transition process in May of the same year, proceeding with the integration under full cost investment by the franchise headquarters, a systematic PMI (Post-Merger Integration) operation system and organizational establishment, and with the positive consent of existing Ministop store owners.
As of the 28th, there are about 10 stores nationwide where brand transition negotiations have not been finalized. Regarding this, a Seven-Eleven official stated, “Although a very small number of stores have not yet transitioned their brand, we consider the official integration complete regardless and will proceed with all future policies accordingly,” adding, “As part of post-integration management, we plan to continue negotiations as much as possible during the one-month post-integration inspection period (until the end of April) to finalize the process.”
With the integration now fully completed, Korea Seven plans to reorganize its organizational culture to focus on stability, high efficiency, and high performance. Through this, it will concentrate all company-wide resources, energy, and capabilities to solidify the convenience store Big 3 system and establish a foundation for mid- to long-term business competitiveness.
Along with this, the company plans to enhance competitiveness of existing stores by expanding renewals and implementing a new store opening policy focused on high-sales prime locations. Additionally, in terms of product competitiveness, it emphasized expanding differentiated products through a two-track strategy of cost-effectiveness and premium offerings centered on its private brand (PB) ‘Seven Select,’ direct sourcing of popular overseas convenience store products using the global Seven-Eleven network, expanding the ready-to-eat category through collaborations with actor Lee Jang-woo and chef Jung Ho-young, and activating character marketing.
Furthermore, Korea Seven plans to further advance support for franchise store operations by integrating AI technology, provide O4O (Online for Offline) services through mobile app restructuring, and enhance daily life convenience services such as parcel delivery and food delivery.
A Seven-Eleven official said, “Along with the Ministop integration work, we have also been simultaneously improving our management system focused on internal stability,” adding, “Now, under the goal of focusing on the essence of the business and implementing stores faithful to the basics, we expect to see the synergy effects from the integration gradually manifest across various aspects of the business.”
