Citizen Who Saved Bleeding Victim and Subdued Knife-Wielding Attacker Barehanded Selected as 'POSCO Heroes'

POSCO Cheongam Foundation announced on the 28th that it has selected Mr. Jo Gap-hyun (45), who helped a citizen injured by a knife-wielding assailant and subdued the assailant with his bare hands, as a 'POSCO Hero.'

On the 8th at around 1 p.m., while working at a fruit store in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, Mr. Jo saved a citizen who ran into the store chased by the knife-wielding assailant A, bleeding from the ear. After safely evacuating the citizen, Mr. Jo confronted A, who was holding a saw, in front of the fruit store.

A took out a new knife from his bag and threatened Mr. Jo. Mr. Jo tried to lure A toward a deserted roadside for the safety of nearby citizens, but A suddenly changed direction and headed back to the fruit store. Mr. Jo ran at A and kicked him in the back, knocking him down, and A sat down on the spot. At that moment, police officers from the local precinct arrived after receiving a report and arrested A.

Regarding the incident, Mr. Jo said, "I could not stand by when I saw a citizen bleeding and asking for help," adding, "I would have acted the same way even in a more dangerous situation."
