Gyeonggi-do Invests 7.3 Billion KRW This Year to Create Abundant Fishing Grounds

Gyeonggi Province will invest 7.3 billion KRW this year to promote a project for creating abundant fishing grounds.


On the 28th, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will carry out various projects this year in 13 cities and counties within the province, including Hwaseong and Yangpyeong, such as ▲ releasing fishery seeds ▲ habitat management ▲ improving the habitat environment of tidal flat fishing grounds.


First, Gyeonggi Province will release 5.75 million fish of 6 species including flounder and blue crab in coastal areas, and 23.6 million fish of 7 species including eel and Korean perch in rivers and lakes.


In addition, to expand spawning and habitat areas for aquatic organisms, 968 hectares of artificial reefs installed over 6,306 hectares along the coasts of Ansan and Hwaseong will be repaired, and 365 inland water artificial spawning grounds installed in major rivers such as the Bukhan River will also be maintained.

Furthermore, to improve the productivity of tidal flat fishing grounds, 558 tons of four high-income shellfish species and 4,532 cubic meters of sand will be spread, and waste collection within the tidal flat fishing grounds will be promoted.


Kim Bong-hyun, Director of the Marine Fisheries Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "We will continuously expand fishery resource management projects such as releasing fishery seeds to create a prosperous Gyeonggi Sea and increase fishermen's income."


Meanwhile, since 1988 until last year, Gyeonggi Province has invested 173.7 billion KRW to release 699.84 million juvenile fish of 25 species in coastal areas within the province and installed 44,458 artificial reefs (covering 6,306 hectares).
