Taking the First Step to Renovate the Baebongsan Jeokhwanjang Site, a 15-Year Resident Wish

Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Ilpyeong Lee) and the University of Seoul (President Yonggeol Won) have pledged mutual cooperation for the efficient use of idle land in Dongdaemun-gu.

On the 25th, President Yonggeol Won of the University of Seoul and District Mayor Ilpyeong Lee of Dongdaemun-gu met in the district mayor's reception room and agreed to actively cooperate in the maintenance and utilization of 'Jeonnong-dong 3-48.'

The area of 'Jeonnong-dong 3-48,' owned by Seoul City and managed by the University of Seoul, was used as a household waste transfer station in the 1980s. However, since its use was discontinued in 2010, it has been left as an eyesore that detracts from the urban landscape, with residents continuously requesting maintenance.

Without legal authority over the site, the district had been struggling, but through this agreement, it has established a foundation to maintain the Jeonnong-dong 3-48 area and alleviate residents' inconveniences.

President Yonggeol Won of the University of Seoul said, “I gladly agreed because the idle land owned by our university can be used for the district. I hope it will be used beneficially for the residents of Dongdaemun-gu in the future.”

District Mayor Ilpyeong Lee of Dongdaemun-gu said, “Today marks a historic day as the first step in maintaining the transfer station site that has long caused inconvenience to residents. We will do our best to quickly maintain the site so that it can be reborn as a new space for the residents.”
