Former Democratic Pre-Candidate Who Left Party in Protest of Cutoff Declares Support for People Power Party Candidate Kim Daesik

Former Busan City Council Chairman Shin Sang-hae: "Pro-North Leftists Use Democratic Party as Host to Return"

On the 27th at Busan City Council, "The Candidate to Realize the Dream of Ideology is Kim Dae-sik"

Former Busan City Council Chairman Shin Sang-hae, who ran as a preliminary candidate for the Democratic Party of Korea, declared his public support for Kim Dae-sik, the candidate from the People Power Party, throwing the opposition party's strategy for the Sasang District general election into confusion.

Busan Sasang District is currently a closely contested electoral district where the ruling and opposition parties maintain a neck-and-neck race, with polling agencies alternating in predicting the winner.

Earlier, former preliminary candidate Shin Sang-hae left the Democratic Party of Korea in protest after being cut off in the party's primary.

On the 27th, Shin held a press conference at the Busan City Council with his supporters, praising Kim Dae-sik as the right person responsible for the development of Sasang, the district he intended to run for, and declared his support.

At the event, he emphasized, “Kim, who has a warm heart and rational leadership, is the person who will realize the political beliefs and dreams for Sasang that I wanted to pursue.”

He left harsh words for Bae Jae-jung, the Democratic Party candidate who won the Sasang primary. Shin criticized, “I judged that Candidate Bae would not be beneficial to regional development or the people,” adding, “Although Candidate Bae has been politically active in Sasang for 12 years, he has done nothing special for the region and has only focused on election campaigns.”

Shin served as a two-term Busan City Council member for the 5th and 8th terms and as council chairman in Sasang District. He registered as a Democratic Party preliminary candidate for Sasang but was excluded from the primary and left the party this month.

He stated, “The current Democratic Party has lost its place for centrism and rationality, and the pro-North leftists, who had temporarily disappeared, are now reviving by using the Democratic Party as a host. As a local politician, I have never abandoned my wish for the country to prosper, but now I will return as an ordinary citizen.”
