Dream Runway Stretching 175m Appears

Raising Expectations for Suncheon, a Place Even Astronauts Visit

A massive runway for spaceship landings has appeared in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do. It is called the ‘Space Hub’.

Suncheon City (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu) is unveiling a new garden called the ‘Space Hub,’ spanning over 5,000 pyeong. The previously unused space connecting the East and West gates has been transformed into a spaceship-shaped garden and plaza.

The floral arrangements are also distinctive. The floral design, reminiscent of mystery circles said to be traces of astronauts, effectively expresses the concept of ‘Suncheon, where even astronauts come to visit.’ In the center, a 175-meter-long space resembling a runway has been created, realizing a dream space where spaceships can land and take off.

An observatory offering a view of the ‘Space Hub’ will also be installed. The observatory, set up to effectively appreciate the spaceship-shaped garden, will provide a different viewing point compared to strolling through the garden on the ground.

The newly transplanted weeping cherry trees are also one of the elements that raise expectations for the ‘Space Hub.’ Unlike typical cherry trees, the weeping cherry trees have branches that droop downward, capturing the attention of visitors to the National Garden and are expected to serve as a popular photo zone.

Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu of Suncheon said, “The newly created Space Hub is a core content born from imagination added to the way we see space. Since it adds a futuristic meaning symbolized by space to Suncheon’s excellent analog garden, I hope more people will come this year to fully enjoy the transformed Suncheon.”

Meanwhile, Suncheon City will hold an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on April 1 at the Suncheonman National Garden Space Hub and will begin full-scale operation of the National Garden.
