The Daejeon-Geumsan Integrated Citizens' Promotion Committee held a press conference at the Daejeon City Council on the morning of the 27th, urging that "the administrative district integration between Daejeon and Geumsan be adopted as a pledge by candidates in the National Assembly elections."
The committee stated, "The administrative district change of Geumsan County to Daejeon City has been a continuous issue for 35 years since Daejeon was promoted to a metropolitan city in 1989," adding, "The integration between Geumsan and Daejeon is a path of mutual growth."
They continued, "Through integration, we can overcome population decline and the crisis of local extinction, revitalize the regional economy, and maximize the quality of life for residents," emphasizing, "Daejeon faces difficulties in expanding sites for advanced industrial complexes and scientific research complexes due to its limited area and saturation of urban development. To resolve challenges in meeting metropolitan administrative demands such as transportation networks with neighboring regions, integration with Geumsan County is absolutely necessary."
Chairman Oh No-gyun said, "If Daejeon and Geumsan integrate, they will gain status as the leading central region hub city of the Chungcheong Mega City," and urged, "We call on candidates in the National Assembly elections to adopt and implement a special law for jurisdictional changes between Daejeon City and Chungcheongnam-do as a campaign pledge."
