Icheon City Strengthens 'Made in Icheon' Urban Brand

Applied to Locally Produced Agricultural Specialties and Manufactured Goods

On the 27th, Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced that it will actively encourage the use of the 'Made in Icheon' origin labeling design for agricultural specialties and industrial products produced in the region.

Amid the risk of local extinction and competition between regions, the importance of 'urban branding' is growing, and the city plans to create a new urban brand linked to locally produced products.


The target products include agricultural specialties, products from social enterprises, and high-quality products produced by local companies with domestic main ingredients. In particular, as many agricultural specialties and other products have recently been exported overseas, the strategy is to increase Icheon's recognition both domestically and internationally through urban brand labeling.


To this end, the city recently created a visual logo of 'Made in Icheon' through calligraphy and is also proceeding with administrative procedures such as trademark registration to prevent design theft and unauthorized use.


Along with this, the city plans to include 'Made in Icheon' in the names of direct sales stores such as the Icheon Local Food Center and the Icheon Local Complex Win-Win Center under construction in Gwango-dong, as well as use the official name in weekend direct transaction markets and various market events hosted by the city.


Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon, said, "'Made in Icheon' is the most intuitive word expressing the industrial and cultural value of Icheon, the first UNESCO Creative City in Korea," adding, "We will strive to make it a highly popular urban brand through an active branding strategy."
