Police Book Used Car Dealer Who Crashed into Patrol Car and Fled... Driving Unlicensed Vehicle Meant for Sale

On the 27th, the Incheon Jungbu Police Station announced that a man in his 20s, Mr. A, was booked the previous day on charges of unlicensed driving and obstruction of official duties under the Road Traffic Act. Mr. A, a used car dealer, is suspected of driving without a license around 2:30 a.m. the previous day on a road near the Wolmido ferry terminal in Jung-gu, Incheon, and injuring a police officer who tried to measure his blood alcohol level on suspicion of drunk driving.

After receiving a report that a vehicle suspected of drunk driving was driving on the road, the police instructed Mr. A to get out of the vehicle for a sobriety test. However, Mr. A refused and rammed the patrol car before fleeing. As a result of this accident, two police officers, including Officer B, sustained injuries to their fingers and neck and are receiving treatment at a hospital.

The vehicle Mr. A was driving at the time was a Volkswagen belonging to a customer and listed for sale. It was confirmed that Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.

The police confirmed through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that Mr. A got into the vehicle, and he voluntarily appeared at the police station the previous day for questioning. During the investigation, Mr. A admitted to fleeing because he was afraid of being caught driving without a license. A police official stated that they are investigating any additional crimes committed by Mr. A and that the detailed circumstances are still under investigation.
