The Korea Insurance Development Institute recently warned of a case where an individual impersonating the Insurance Refund Support Center attempted voice phishing by claiming to refund insurance money through the Institute.
The Korea Insurance Development Institute stated on the 26th, "Under no circumstances do we request personal information from the general public over the phone," and urged caution to prevent damage from voice phishing.
The Institute requested that if you receive calls from entities such as 'Actual Expense Insurance Survey,' 'Insurance Inspection Center,' or 'Insurance Refund Support Center,' you should verify the authenticity with related organizations such as the Financial Supervisory Service or the Korea Insurance Development Institute.
To prevent personal information theft, they advised to refuse any requests for providing personal information or transferring funds, and not to store account numbers, passwords, or ID card photos on mobile phones. They also mentioned the need to double-check phone numbers of regulated financial companies.
