Expansion to 4 Business Types... New Initiatives for 'Living Environment Improvement', 'Social Network', and 'Post-Management'
Up to 500,000 KRW per Person for Living Environment Improvement Expenses... Support for Cleaning, Disinfection, and Home Repair Costs
'Social Network Formation' to Alleviate Isolation... Monthly Group Meetings for External Activities
New 'Post-Management' for Unclaimed Deaths... Up to 1,000,000 KRW for Belongings Cleanup and Special Cleaning
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is expanding customized prevention policies targeting about 3,000 people at risk of solitary death.
Previously, the focus was on checking in on single-person households, but supplementary measures have been established to address the complex causes of solitary death.
Starting this year, 'improvement of living environment,' 'formation of social networks,' and 'post-management' have been added to fill the gaps in solitary death prevention.
First, up to 500,000 KRW per person will be provided as living environment improvement expenses. The funds will be used for cleaning, disinfection, waste disposal, and simple home repairs to eliminate domestic hazards such as fall accidents.
Along with this, the 'formation of social networks' will be promoted. Regular group meetings such as hobby activities, exercise, and grocery shopping will be held to alleviate feelings of isolation. With a capacity of 20 people, various external activities will be prepared monthly to provide a sense of belonging as members of society.
Additionally, a 'post-management service' will be provided for unclaimed deceased persons. Up to 1,000,000 KRW will be supported for five low-income households for the organization of the deceased’s belongings and special cleaning.
Furthermore, safety checks through phone calls and visits will continue to protect the safety of 3,000 people at risk of solitary death.
Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “We have devised detailed support measures tailored to the characteristics of the target group in preparation for the increasing risk of solitary death every year,” and added, “We will build a warmer and more thorough welfare network so that marginalized neighbors can connect with the local community.”
