Friend Who Gave 20,000 Won as Wedding Gift on Wedding Day
Four 5,000-Won Bills, Total 20,000 Won Gift
"It Was a Mistake" Sent Additional 180,000 Won
Recently, as prices have risen sharply, controversy over the 'appropriate amount for congratulatory money' has surfaced, and a story about a close friend giving only 20,000 won as congratulatory money has sparked heated debate among netizens.
Recently, a post titled "Friend who gave 20,000 won as congratulatory money" was uploaded on an online community, drawing attention. The author, Mr. A, who got married a few days ago, began by saying, "On my wedding day, a close friend whom I often meet gave four 5,000 won bills, totaling 20,000 won as congratulatory money."
Mr. A said, "After returning from our honeymoon, I was looking at the congratulatory money and wondered if it was a mistake, so I asked my friend, and he said he had given 200,000 won. When I told him 'You only gave 20,000 won,' he immediately apologized, asked for my account number, and transferred 180,000 won." He continued, "He told our friend group that he had first paid 20,000 won as congratulatory money and said it was a mistake. But I wonder if such a thing can really be a mistake. Is this really a mistake?"
Mr. A also said, "Once, I lent money to this friend and was supposed to get it back, but he changed the date we were supposed to meet." He added, "When I asked why, he said he changed it to meet after payday." He confessed, "If I said I only gave 20,000 won as congratulatory money, wouldn't it be normal for him to say 'Check again'? I don't understand why he sent 180,000 won immediately without saying anything."
Netizens who read the story responded with comments such as, "Anyone can see it was intentional," "If he's a close friend, he must have really hated paying money," "Four 5,000 won bills are hard to see as a mistake," "He deliberately gave only 20,000 won," and "He probably thought he could save 180,000 won if he just pretended not to know."
On the other hand, some netizens said, "It could really have been a mistake," "If it was a real mistake, why make it a public issue on the internet?" "Still, if he sent 180,000 won later, it's better not to complain," and "If the friend sees this post, he might feel hurt."
