This business agreement is to implement the 'Phase 2 Free Transportation' starting from the 29th, expanding the free transportation beneficiaries to include basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty groups, and single-parent families aged 6 to 64. Anseong City is gradually expanding free transportation for all citizens to guarantee universal mobility rights. Previously, since April last year, the city has been supporting transportation costs for city buses up to 80 rides per month for seniors aged 65 and older within the city.
Through this agreement, the city will be responsible for administrative support, budget allocation, project promotion, and transportation card issuance for the free transportation project. KORAIL will handle the provision of transportation card modules and services, data provision, and transportation card supply. Both organizations agreed to form and operate a working-level consultative body for efficient project implementation and prompt decision-making through information sharing.
Anseong City expects about 6,800 people to benefit from the Phase 2 free transportation implementation. The city is also considering expanding the free transportation support to approximately 28,900 children and adolescents aged 6 to 23 in the future.
Kim Bora, Mayor of Anseong City, said, "This agreement has laid the foundation to expand the free transportation project," adding, "We will actively promote the phased expansion of support targets to ensure mobility rights for all citizens and to revitalize public transportation, making Anseong a sustainable city."
Meanwhile, since August 2021, KORAIL has been supporting low-income groups by establishing a Rail Plus-based transportation welfare platform necessary for local governments' free transportation support projects, starting with Siheung City.
