Establishing a System for Wildfire Prevention, Fine Dust Reduction, and Safe Disposal of Agricultural Residues
Promoting Awareness and Education to Prevent Field Ridge Burning... Improving Farmers' Awareness
Ulleung-gun, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold and operate the 2024 Mobile Agricultural Byproduct Shredding Support Team inauguration ceremony from the 26th to prevent forest fires and reduce fine dust and pest outbreaks.
The main agricultural byproducts in the area include pruned branches of Aronia melanocarpa planted in the fields, as well as chili pepper stalks, perilla stalks, and deodeok stems.
An official from the county stated, “Through a recruitment announcement, we select workers who are well acquainted with local conditions, provide safety accident prevention training, and then deploy them to the field. Using vehicles, they circulate through villages to conduct agricultural byproduct safety disposal campaigns and perform shredding work for applying farms.”
The project period is flexibly operated according to agricultural conditions, with the first half running from March to May 25, and the second half from October to December 15. Farmers who wish to dispose of agricultural byproducts can apply to the Agricultural Technology Center’s Technology Extension Team, which will visit the site and safely handle the agricultural byproducts.
Nam Han-kwon, the county governor, said, “With the active participation of farmers, the mobile agricultural byproduct safety disposal support project will not only be established early but also help resolve inconveniences for farmers and prevent illegal burning. We ask for your active cooperation to create a safer Ulleung agriculture, including forest fire prevention.”
