Visiting Heejeongdang Hall at Changdeokgung and Traditional Korean Music Performance at Daejojeon Woldae

National Gugak Center's 'Night at Changdeokgung' Performance from April 3 to 6

'The Night of Changdeokgung Illuminated by Plum Blossoms (Night of Changdeokgung),' where visitors can tour the interior of Heejeongdang Hall and enjoy a performance by the National Gugak Center at the Daejojeon Woldae, will be held from April 3 to 6, the National Gugak Center and Changdeokgung Management Office announced on the 26th.

Heejeongdang Hall is a pavilion where the king and queen lived during the Joseon Dynasty. Although access to the interior is usually restricted, it will be specially opened for the Night of Changdeokgung event.

The first stage of the Daejojeon Woldae performance, presented by the National Gugak Center’s Jeongak and Dance Troupes, will feature the sijo poem "Jamryong" left by Crown Prince Hyomyeong. Crown Prince Hyomyeong was born at Daejojeon in Changdeokgung, the venue of the performance. "Jamryong" expresses the prince’s intention to ascend the throne and work diligently for the people.

Following this, the dance performance "Chunaengjeon," which depicts the elegant posture of a cuckoo to celebrate the 40th birthday of Crown Prince Hyomyeong’s mother, Queen Sunwon, will be presented. Next, the daegeum solo piece "Cheongseongjajinhanip" will be performed, and finally, the wind ensemble "Pyojeongmanbangjigok," specifically the "Sangryeongsan" section, will be played. "Pyojeongmanbangjigok" means "Righteousness spreads throughout the world."

The National Gugak Center stated that it plans to promote various gugak performances utilizing cultural spaces like Changdeokgung. They intend to hold about 40 performances annually at cultural venues such as palaces and seowon academies in the regions to showcase the charm of gugak.

Tickets for the Night of Changdeokgung will be available for reservation on Interpark starting at 2 p.m. on the 26th.
