Selected for the 2024 Seoul City Support Project for Accompanying the Disabled in Autonomous Districts, Total Funding of 130 Million KRW
Kiosk Training for People with Developmental Disabilities and Oral Health Management for Vulnerable Groups... Leading Accompaniment for the Disabled
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) has achieved a great success by securing a total project fund of 130 million KRW with two projects selected in the 2024 Seoul City ‘Support Project for Autonomous Districts Accompanying the Vulnerable’ contest.
The Seoul City ‘Support Project for Autonomous Districts Accompanying the Vulnerable’ contest aims to discover support projects for vulnerable groups by autonomous districts and share excellent cases. Out of a total of 74 projects from 25 autonomous districts reviewed, 30 projects were finally selected, among which Mapo-gu had two projects chosen.
The first selected project, ‘SesangCook! Kitchen (Getting Friendly with Kiosks),’ is a program that provides kiosk education to about 100 people with developmental disabilities in the region to strengthen their digital capabilities.
Although kiosks are rapidly becoming widespread, it is not easy for people with developmental disabilities to use them without practice. Therefore, education was prepared to repeatedly learn and master how to use kiosks tailored to the characteristics of developmental disabilities.
The district plans to distribute specialized educational kiosks to a total of six welfare institutions for the disabled, with Mapo Disabled Welfare Center as the base institution, and dispatch professional digital device instructors to three institutions to form small groups and conduct 12 training sessions annually.
In particular, by distributing kiosks to welfare institutions for the disabled, the project aims to improve educational convenience and accessibility for the digitally vulnerable and enhance the effectiveness of education through hands-on experience ordering directly from disability-friendly stores in the area and using voucher tickets on kiosks.
The second project, ‘Together for Oral Health Accompaniment Management,’ is a medical support project for oral health care, which is often neglected among vulnerable residents such as low-income disabled people.
The district operates a dental clinic for vulnerable groups at Seogang Health Branch (located on the 3rd floor of Seogang-dong Community Center, 165 Dokmak-ro), where primary oral examinations are conducted. It also collaborates with the Central Disabled Medical Center and Purme Nexus Children’s Rehabilitation Hospital to connect and support dental treatments. Post-treatment follow-up care for the subjects is also provided.
Especially for those with mobility difficulties, expert home-visit oral care services are provided. The project plans to support oral hygiene management and oral muscle function enhancement services for vulnerable groups with high incidence of oral diseases and tooth loss.
With the selection in the Seoul City Support Project for Accompanying the Vulnerable, Mapo-gu received a total project fund of 130 million KRW, with 41.8 million KRW and 90 million KRW allocated to each project respectively.
Mayor Park Kang-su said, “As the proverb goes, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together,’ Mapo-gu will step forward in sync with each resident in need of attention and support in the region to go further,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to build a dense welfare system like fine roots so that no neighbor is left behind.”
