Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced that it will hold the 'Lake Cherry Blossom Festival' at Seokchon Lake, a representative cherry blossom spot in Seoul, for five days from March 27 to March 31.
Mayor Seo Gang-seok emphasized, "Songpa's Cherry Blossom Festival is the only festival in Seoul where you can experience the beautiful scenery of a lake and cherry blossoms harmonizing in the city," and announced the start of the festival by saying, "The 'Beautiful Spring, Cherry Blossom Story Lake Cherry Blossom Festival' returns to Seokchon Lake, which shone with luminaria last fall and winter, to welcome the new spring."
The highlight of this year's Lake Cherry Blossom Festival is the 'Cherry Blossoms on a Spring Night.' White lights will be installed throughout the 2.6 km area of Seokchon Lake to create a fantastic cherry blossom night view. Visitors can enjoy a unique spectacle where 1,100 cherry blossom trees?including king cherry, mountain cherry, weeping cherry, and double-flowered cherry trees?are illuminated by pure white light.
In particular, the landscape lighting is installed higher than the height of a person to minimize glare, allowing spring visitors to fully enjoy the atmosphere of spring while admiring the splendidly embroidered cherry blossoms along the lakeside even at night.
Additionally, during the five days of the festival, a variety of performances including K-pop, classical, and jazz will be presented for all age groups to enjoy together.
On the first day of the festival, March 27, the opening ceremony 'Welcoming the Cherry Blossoms' will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:40 PM.
▲ Starting with classical and vocal duets, ▲ the show choir group Harmonize, ▲ the popera group Bohemian’s musical crossover, and ▲ K-pop singer Soyou’s stage will elevate the festive atmosphere with dazzling celebratory performances.
From March 28 to 30, from 2:00 PM to 6:40 PM, various performances will take place on the waterside stage at the east lake of Seokchon Lake, including ▲ Songpa-gu municipal choir and Songpa-gu municipal silver orchestra performances, ▲ youth busking, and ▲ acoustic pop and jazz performances across diverse genres.
On the last day, March 31, from 5:30 PM, visitors can enjoy the 'Cherry Blossom Full Bloom Concert.' The event will feature ▲ a spectacular performance by the electronic string group Trinity, ▲ an emotional stage by the jazz band Updatbrown, ▲ an exciting medley by the a cappella group Exit, and will conclude with ▲ a finale performance by the four-member female girl group 'Hi-Key.'
Moreover, the festival offers additional attractions such as the splendid 'Cherry Blossom Gate' installed at the entrance of the east lake of Seokchon Lake, photo zones featuring Songpa-gu’s character Haha Hoho throughout the lake, and experiential programs including caricature drawing, face painting, and cherry blossom candle making. A flea market selling cherry blossom-themed accessories and crafts will also add to the fun.
Furthermore, the district has focused on safety management to ensure all visitors can enjoy the festival without accidents. Twenty-three percent of the festival budget was allocated to safety management costs. Approximately 200 safety personnel will be deployed daily throughout the venue to maintain order among visitors, and a multi-crowd fusion analysis platform will be used for real-time monitoring.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, "We have made thorough preparations to ensure that everyone visiting the festival can safely enjoy the cherry blossoms," and added, "We hope many people will come to the 'Beautiful Spring, Cherry Blossom Story Lake Cherry Blossom Festival' and create precious memories by the cherry blossom-covered lake."
Meanwhile, as a flagship project of the 'Songpa-daero Premium Street Development,' the district is promoting the 'Songpa Avenue Project,' which involves widening the 1.5 km pedestrian path from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market and planting cherry trees to create a cherry blossom road. This is expected to naturally guide lake visitors toward Songpa-daero.
