Yeongdeok-gun Water Management Office and Ecobit Water Joint River Cleanup Activity

About 40 employees from the Yeongdeok-gun Water Management Office and Ecobit Water held a joint commemorative event along the Osipcheon area in Yeongdeok-eup on the 22nd to mark 'World Water Day.'

During the event, participants made EM (Effective Micro-organisms) soil balls by kneading microbial fermentation liquid and loess, and directly threw them into the Osipcheon river to purify the water.

EM soil balls have effects such as improving water quality, restoring soil, and removing odors. The restored river ecosystem plays a role in capturing and storing carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere.

Participants also walked about 2 km along the Osipcheon area while collecting trash around the river in a 'river plogging' activity. River plogging is an environmental cleanup activity that involves picking up trash while running or walking near bodies of water.

Choi Dae-seok, head of the Yeongdeok-gun Water Management Office, said, “This was a time to empathize with how valuable and rewarding it is to improve water quality and restore aquatic ecosystems in an eco-friendly local community through environmental protection activities carried out with one heart and mind by the staff.” He added, “We will continue to promote activities and projects that residents can participate in for environmental preservation in the community, from daily life to events like this.”
