Seongbuk-gu Provides 6 Million KRW Support for Smart Manufacturing Startups

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced that it will recruit (preliminary) early-stage startup companies to participate in the ‘2024 Seongbuk Industry Smartification Startup Challenge’ from March 27 to April 9.

The ‘Seongbuk Industry Smartification Startup Challenge’ is one of the initiatives under the ‘Public-Academic Cooperation Agreement for Job Creation in the 4th Industrial Revolution’ signed in September 2020. Seongbuk-gu is implementing this project in collaboration with the startup support groups of six local universities (Korea University, Kookmin University, Dongduk Women’s University, Seokyeong University, Sungshin Women’s University, Hansung University).

Applicants must be early-stage startups (companies) within three years of establishment located in Seongbuk-gu or preliminary startup teams planning to establish their business in Seongbuk-gu. In particular, the district plans to focus support on companies dealing with the smartification of manufacturing industries, especially the highly active fashion and apparel manufacturing sector in the region. The plan is to provide commercialization funds and other support to companies with promising startup items or related technologies applicable to manufacturing industry smartification, enabling local startups’ ideas to serve as a catalyst for regional industrial innovation.

The selection process consists of a first-round document screening and a second-round face-to-face evaluation, with approximately five companies to be finally selected. The selected companies will receive up to 6 million KRW in commercialization support funds and will carry out their projects with in-depth mentoring from university startup support groups and the One-Person Creative Enterprise Support Center operated by Seongbuk-gu until December this year.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Many (preliminary) early-stage entrepreneurs are facing difficulties as the local economy contracts due to recent steep inflation. This project was planned to assist Seongbuk-gu companies that have good business ideas and technologies but lack initial funding. We will continue to strive to be a reliable pillar and supporter for (preliminary) early-stage entrepreneurs through various startup support projects.”
