Gwangjin-gu Awards Plaques of Appreciation to Residents Who Rescued Neighbors at Fire Scene

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) presented a plaque of appreciation on the 22nd to residents who took the lead in rescuing neighbors through swift action at a residential fire scene.

At around 10 p.m. on the 2nd, a fire broke out in the basement of a multi-family house in Gwangjang-dong. Nearby residents Song Jae-sik, Bae Chang-seon, and Kim Kyung-ho quickly reported the fire to the fire station, removed the window of the semi-basement where the fire occurred to secure an escape route, and rescued residents. Before the fire brigade arrived, they brought fire extinguishers and directly put out the fire, preventing further damage. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was extinguished in about 20 minutes, avoiding what could have been a major accident.

In response, on the 22nd, the district awarded plaques of appreciation to those who risked their lives to suppress the fire and protect residents during the urgent fire scene. This was to express gratitude for their exceptional spirit of sacrifice, courage, and proactive rescue activities.

Song Jae-sik, who received the plaque, said, “I heard a sudden ‘bang’ and ran out. Seeing the fire at the neighboring house, I thought I had to quickly evacuate people to prevent casualties. It was something I naturally had to do, so I am truly humbled to receive this plaque of appreciation.”

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, “Quickly reporting the fire and removing the window to help residents evacuate during a tense fire scene is a courageous act that not just anyone can do. I extend my deep respect and gratitude to those who protected the lives and property of our residents.”

Going forward, the district plans to continue expressing gratitude to residents who quietly dedicate themselves and serve for the development of the local community.
