590m Long, 2m Wide Pedestrian Bridge
Yongin City Aims for Completion in 2026
A pedestrian overpass bridge will be installed across Giheung Reservoir in Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, which is one of the three major reservoirs in the Seoul metropolitan area with an area of 2.58㎢ (about 800,000 pyeong).
Yongin City announced on the 25th that it plans to start construction next year and complete a pedestrian overpass bridge measuring 590m in length and 2m in width at Giheung Reservoir in the Gomae-dong area of Giheung-gu by 2026. The pedestrian bridge will be installed from the rowing stadium on the east side of Giheung Reservoir to the direction of Kyung Hee University on the west side.

The city decided to install the pedestrian overpass bridge to improve accessibility to the reservoir's circular walking trail. The walking trail alone stretches 10km, and until now, trail users had to take a detour around Hagal Intersection, causing inconvenience.
To this end, the city recently initiated an urban planning facility decision service for the installation of the pedestrian road. Through a design competition, the city plans to make the pedestrian overpass bridge a landmark of the lake park.
Separately, the city plans to complete a bridge this year that connects Giheung Respia within the circular walking trail and the parking lot on the west side of the reservoir, measuring 153m in length and 3m in width.
A city official said, “We expect that installing the pedestrian overpass bridge at Giheung Reservoir will provide a distinctive and safe walking environment,” adding, “We will do our best to make the pedestrian overpass bridge a new landmark.”
Previously, the city completed the construction of the Giheung Reservoir circular walking trail in November last year, seven years after starting construction in 2016. The project to connect the reservoir sluice gate to the water golf course section, which had not been connected due to residents' opposition, was completed.
Giheung Reservoir, completed in 1964, has an area of 2.58㎢ and is the third largest reservoir in the Seoul metropolitan area after Idong and Gosam Reservoirs. Originally developed as an agricultural reservoir, it has now transformed into a large-scale lake park as the surrounding farmland has been developed.
