"Even the Party Leader Talks of Impeachment...
We Focus on Policy Initiatives"
"Lee Jongseop's Case Differs from Song Younggil...
Investigative Agencies Engaged in Political Maneuvering"
Han Donghoon, Emergency Response Committee Chairman of the People Power Party, sharply criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, stating, "All of the Democratic Party's policies ultimately amount to nothing more than 'let's bring down the government,' 'let's create chaos,' and 'let's cause disruption.'
On the morning of the 24th, on his way to the party headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, Han met with reporters who asked about ways to boost approval ratings. He responded, "There are no magic solutions in politics," and added, "It is about continuing to engage in politics for the citizens with sincerity." Targeting the Democratic Party, he further stated, "When dealing with forces that only talk about such extreme confrontation, it is sometimes necessary not to back down from a fight. However, we will not neglect to explain important issues such as people's livelihoods and the economy."

Han repeatedly emphasized the need for a "policy-driven election" in response to the opposition's push for impeachment. He said, "Isn't the Democratic Party openly talking about impeachment? In the past, politicians refrained from mentioning impeachment for fear of backlash, but now even the party leader is doing it openly." He continued, "That should not be the case. Such turmoil will prevent the country from moving forward, so the People Power Party will continue to introduce good policies to the public, such as the abolition of the financial investment tax."
He also addressed the delay in the investigation by the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) into Lee Jongseop, Ambassador to Australia. When asked whether, in the past, he had said that former Democratic Party leader Song Younggil should follow investigative procedures, Han drew a clear line, saying, "This is a completely different matter."
Han explained, "Former leader Song was not subject to a travel ban, and the prosecution did not state that a direct investigation was necessary. However, Song voluntarily returned to Korea and even protested in front of the prosecutor's office." He pointed out, "In the current situation, it seems no special clues or evidence have emerged for a long time, yet a travel ban has been continuously imposed."
He added, "The CIO has stated that a summons investigation is absolutely necessary right before the general election and that they have never allowed him to leave the country. They have sent a message as if the investigation is on the verge of judicial action," he pointed out. He went on to say, "This is close to political maneuvering. In the case of former leader Song, statements and recordings had already been secured, and the prosecution neither summoned him nor imposed a travel ban."
Additionally, regarding Nomination Committee Chairman Jung Younghwan's goal of winning "up to 170 seats" in the upcoming general election, Han said, "I will defer to Secretary General Jang Donghyuk's remarks." Previously, Secretary General Jang had dismissed the goal as merely "a hopeful wish from the nomination committee chairman who has completed the nomination process."
