96.1% Satisfaction Rate Among Users of Seongdong-gu Smart Shelter

Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) announced that 96.1% of users were satisfied with the results of the 2024 first half Smart Shelter usage satisfaction survey.

This survey was conducted for the first time in two years since the 2021 survey to understand the demand of Smart Shelter users following the COVID-19 pandemic. It was conducted over 23 days from January 9 to 31, targeting a total of 1,078 people (357 men and 721 women).

The survey results showed that the satisfaction rate for Smart Shelter usage was 96.1% (1,036 people) for responses of satisfied or higher, an increase of 0.8% from the previous survey result of 95.3%. Among them, the very satisfied response rate also rose by 2.7% from 67.5% to 70.2%.

This is analyzed to be due to reflecting residents' opinions from the site selection stage when installing shelters and enhancing the shelter functions for residents' convenience.

Those who regularly use the Smart Shelter (83.6%, 901 people) were about four times more than those who use it irregularly (16.4%, 177 people). Two-thirds of regular users use the shelter three or more times a week, including daily use (53.3%, 575 people), confirming a large number of users consistently using the Smart Shelter.

Among respondents, 62.5% (674 people) reside within Seongdong-gu, while 37.2% (401 people) reside outside the area, a significant increase compared to the 16% (190 people) residing outside Seongdong-gu in the previous survey. This is attributed to increased visitors to Seongdong-gu as movement became freer after the end of COVID-19 and the rise in the number of office workers commuting into Seongdong-gu.

Also, the primary purpose of using the Smart Shelter was found to be cooling and sheltering from heat (84.9%, 915 people), followed by checking traffic information (51.0%, 550 people). The most satisfying features were air conditioning and heating (75.8%, 817 people), followed by traffic information provision (47.3%, 510 people).

Regarding additional information users want to receive inside the shelter, the top items were weekly weather (35.1%, 378 people), key news headlines (32.7%, 352 people), and Seongdong restaurants (23.8%, 257 people).

Other resident opinions from the satisfaction survey will be promptly reflected in shelter facilities and operations. If budget securing, technical review, or other preparation processes are required, sufficient discussion and prior procedures will be conducted.

In particular, regarding the opinion about inconvenience caused by doors opening inward and bumping into people, the shelter chairs at Majang Station were replaced with backrest chairs and are now in pilot operation. Due to positive user feedback, this will be applied when installing new shelters in the future.

Additionally, a video on shelter usage rules to promote the culture of ‘taking your trash with you’ will be produced and broadcast. Four shelters will also pilot operate as a reception window for various user requests through existing emergency bells, with plans to expand this service.

Meanwhile, the Smart Shelter is equipped with a hearing loop to assist the hearing-impaired and an automated external defibrillator (AED) for emergencies, carefully considering vulnerable groups and ensuring the safety of residents.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, “I hope those who visit the Seongdong-style Smart Shelter can enjoy small daily happiness. We will actively reflect the opinions received and do our best to operate more convenient Smart Shelters in the future.”
