Water Saving Option When Booking... Daily Usage 100ℓ
"Reducing Shower Time by Just 2 Minutes Saves a Lot of Water"
A hotel chain in France has attracted attention by introducing a unique pricing system. Guests who finish their showers quickly and save water receive a discount on their accommodation fees.
On the 22nd (local time), the French daily Le Figaro introduced a hotel implementing various environmental protection policies in celebration of 'World Water Day.'
Nomad, a small three-star hotel chain operating locations such as Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, offers customers the option to select a 'water-saving' choice when booking online. Symbolically, guests receive a 1 euro (about 1,400 won) discount in exchange for limiting their water usage to 100 liters per person per night.
If the daily usage exceeds 100 liters, the water supply is reduced. Guests can monitor their water consumption in real-time via a tablet installed in the room. The hotel explained, "The quicker you finish your shower, the more advantageous it is for the guest," adding, "Reducing shower time by just 2 minutes can save an average of 24 liters of water."
In addition to the water-saving option, guests can receive a 1 euro discount for not using the TV, air conditioning, or heating, or for not changing towels daily. If bed sheets are not changed daily, a 2 euro discount is given, and if the room is not cleaned daily, a 4 euro discount applies. When selecting all options, the total discount guests can receive from accommodation fees starting at 70 euros (about 100,000 won) is approximately 10 euros (14,000 won).
Furthermore, to protect the environment, the hotel has installed showerheads that save 3 to 4 liters of water per minute in the shower rooms, and toilet water is supplied using rainwater. Water tanks are heated using solar panels.
The hotel stated, "Thanks to these measures, our hotel consumes an average of 190 liters of water per day for a double occupancy room," which is "36% less than the average hotel consumption of 300 liters." Because of this, Nomad Hotel has officially received the 'Eco-label' recognized by the European Union.
The hotel founder, Mr. Gourban Branelek, said, "We wanted guests to participate in an interactive lodging experience," adding, "We encourage responsible behavior for the environment through symbolic small savings."
