Dobong-gu to Recruit Participants for 2024 Dobong Youth Overseas Internship (USA) Until April 8
Targeting Dobong-gu Residents Aged 19-45 Eligible for US J1 Visa
6 General Selections, 1 Priority Selection (Low-Income Youth), Total 7 Participants
Dobong-gu (Mayor Oh Eon-seok) is selecting 7 local youths to gain internship experience overseas.
The district announced that it will recruit participants for the 2024 Dobong Youth Overseas Internship (USA) until 4:00 PM on April 8.
The Dobong Youth Overseas Internship is a program that collaborates with specialized overseas internship companies to match Dobong-gu youths who want internship experience abroad, such as in the United States, with companies overseas, considering their majors and job roles.
Last year, the program started as the first of its kind among Seoul’s autonomous districts, selecting a total of 5 participants. Currently, 3 participants are gaining internship experience at local companies in California and New Jersey, USA. The remaining 2 will depart and start working within this year.
This year, the internship recruitment includes 6 general selections and 1 priority selection (for basic livelihood security recipients, near-poverty class, single-parent families, etc.), totaling 7 participants. The eligibility and number of participants have been expanded compared to last year.
Applicants must be youths residing in Dobong-gu who wish to intern in the United States and are eligible for a US J1 visa issuance.
Main support includes ▲visa issuance fee of 5 million KRW per person (up to 7.2 million KRW including visa issuance fee for priority selection) ▲capacity-building education such as English resume writing and interviews ▲support for matching with overseas companies (considering job roles and majors) ▲support for visa issuance procedures and local stay monitoring. However, participants must cover airfare, insurance fees (partially supported by the district for priority selection), embassy interviews, and local living expenses.
Selection is conducted through a first-round document screening and a second-round interview (for those who attend the project briefing session). Selected participants will undergo about 4 months of capacity-building education and interviews with companies and embassies, and will depart to start local work as early as August this year.
Internships last from a minimum of 12 months to a maximum of 18 months at over 800 US-based companies, including American companies, Korean companies’ US branches, and Korean-American businesses. The average annual salary is about 43 million KRW.
The application deadline is 4:00 PM on April 8. Dobong-gu youths wishing to participate in the internship can download the application form from the district website (Notice Board → Announcements), fill it out, and submit it along with the required documents via email to the person in charge.
Oh Eon-seok, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, “The history of our country’s economic development is marked by continuous overseas expansion. Enhancing the global potential of Dobong-gu youths is directly linked to the future competitiveness of our district and nation.” He added, “Going forward, the district will do its best to provide opportunities for Dobong-gu youths to realize their dreams and capabilities overseas, including through overseas internships.”
