General 'Laundry Fees Are Paid with Stories', 'Sanbok Laundry Room'

With the interest and participation of many Busan citizens, three books have been selected as the ‘2024 One Book One Busan’ Books of the Year for everyone to read and relate to together.

The Busan Metropolitan Citizen Library announced that the 2024 One Book One Busan Books of the Year were selected as follows: in the children’s category, Find Me!; in the youth category, Fifteen and a Bear; and in the general category, We Accept Laundry Fees in Stories, Sanbok Laundry Room.

For the 21st One Book One Busan Books of the Year selection, nine books across three categories?children, youth, and general?were nominated as candidates for voting. The voting took place both online and offline from February 14 to March 14.

As a result, out of a total of 33,787 votes, the three books with the highest votes in each category were selected as the ‘One Book One Busan Books of the Year’.

In the children’s category, Find Me! by author Kim Tan-ri (Bright Future Publishing) was selected. Through the protagonist’s search for a missing younger sibling, the book reflects on the meaning of protecting and respecting life, showing the growth of a child.

It is a collection of stories written by young journalists from a local Busan newspaper who created the Sanbok Laundry Room in Hocheon Village, helping elderly residents with their laundry and sharing heartfelt stories they heard.

The Citizen Library plans to promote various reading culture programs such as the ‘One Book One Busan Harmony Festival,’ ‘Reading Relay,’ and ‘Author Tour Lectures,’ starting with the selection of the One Book of the Year.

Cheon Jeong-suk, director of the Citizen Library, said, “The One Book One Busan Books of the Year were selected through citizen voting with the interest and participation of Busan citizens,” and added, “I hope that all Busan citizens will share the selected books throughout the year and engage in discussions together, creating a healthy Busan.”
