New Album After 6 Years
The KBS Symphony Orchestra announced on the 20th that it will release a new album for the first time in six years.
The new album, released under Warner Music Korea's Warner Classics label, features Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5, recorded over three days last March at the Goyang Aram Nuri Aram Music Hall. The last album released by the KBS Symphony Orchestra was a live recording of Mahler's Symphony No. 9, issued in 2018 under the Deutsche Grammophon label.
Music Director Pietari Inkinen expressed satisfaction, saying, "Although the recording sessions were intense over three days, we beautifully performed Tchaikovsky's unique romanticism expressed through endlessly beautiful melodies with the orchestra members, resulting in an excellent work."
Simon B?ckenhoff, the 1st Tonmeister of the Deutsche Radio Philharmonic, and Choi Jin, Tonmeister, participated in the recording process, helping to produce high-quality content.
After completing the pre-recording sessions, the KBS Symphony Orchestra was invited to perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 at the 76th Edinburgh Festival last August. This was their first overseas performance with Music Director Pietari Inkinen, and they received a perfect score of 5 out of 5 in the festival's official performance evaluation, confirming the status and strength of Korean classical music to the local audience.
A representative of the KBS Symphony Orchestra stated, "We plan to continuously work on album projects to record and preserve the quality of our orchestra's performances and to enhance the reputation and recognition of the KBS Symphony Orchestra."
The cover design of this CD album features "Passion," a work by contemporary artist Jeong Hyun-joo.
The KBS Symphony Orchestra's recording of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5 is scheduled to be available for sale both online and offline in March.
