[Click eStock] “Han Sung Clean Tech, Ultrapure Water Highlighted Amid Semiconductor Localization Issue”

Hanyang Securities forecasted on the 20th that Hansung Cleantec would gain attention in the ultrapure water business as the issue of semiconductor localization is imminent.

Hansung Cleantec is an EPC specialized company that provides one-stop services for the design, procurement, and construction of water treatment facilities such as ultrapure water, wastewater, and industrial water required for electronic and semiconductor processes. It has En Water Solution and E Clean Water as subsidiaries engaged in the liquid designated waste business, positioning itself as a comprehensive environmental energy company.

Lee Jun-seok, a researcher at Hanyang Securities, analyzed in a report on the same day, “The importance of the industrial water treatment sector is increasing, and the localization of ultrapure water, a national project, is imminent,” adding, “Hansung Cleantec, selected as a company for the national project on ultrapure water localization technology development from 2021 to 2025, is drawing attention.”

The Ministry of Environment projected that the global ultrapure water market would grow from 19.5 trillion KRW in 2020 to 23.4 trillion KRW this year. Ultrapure water (Ultrapure Water, 初純水) refers to pure water from which all contaminants have been removed. As microfabrication processes advance with the development of AI semiconductors, cleaning wafers with ultrapure water has become essential.

He explained, “Domestic semiconductor companies mostly import ultrapure water from Japan,” and “In 2019, when Japan banned exports of key semiconductor display items to Korea, the domestic semiconductor industry suffered a significant blow, and the government launched a national project in 2021 to localize semiconductor ultrapure water.”

Hansung Cleantec, with its high technical capability in water treatment EPC, was selected as a national project company and in November 2022 signed an ultrapure water EPC supply contract worth 83.6 billion KRW with wafer manufacturer SK Siltron. It also plans to install and operate a demonstration plant producing 2,400 tons of ultrapure water per day by 2025 in collaboration with SK Siltron.

He stated, “While environmental companies have focused on public sector orders, the company was selected as a national project company based on references with private semiconductor and display companies,” and added, “We expect a quantum leap from an industrial water treatment EPC company to a global comprehensive environmental company.”
