54 Safe Traffic Safety Guides Assigned for Children’s School Commute in Seongbuk-gu

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has begun full-scale activities from the 18th with the selected children's school commute traffic safety instructors to ensure the safe commuting of elementary school students and prevent traffic accidents.

The 54 traffic safety instructors who were finally selected completed mandatory training and were assigned to 17 elementary schools in the area, taking care of the commute routes of 273 children.

The children's school commute traffic safety instructor project, under the name "Walking School Bus," was first implemented nationwide in Seongbuk-gu in 2008 and has since been responsible for the school commute routes of over 3,000 children.

During school commute times, students with similar routes are gathered to walk together, and the instructors assist with crosswalk signal guidance and vehicle control to ensure the safety of elementary school students.

Additionally, they patrol around schools and commute routes to report hazardous environments and potential safety risks.

Kim 00, who has been an instructor at Janggok Elementary School for five years, said, "It can be tiring to guide every day, but after several years, I have come to know the siblings of the children and have grown attached to them," adding, "I feel rewarded when I receive heartfelt thank-you letters from the children."

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, "This year as well, through the traffic safety instructor project, we will create a safer school commute environment where children and parents can feel at ease."
