Urging Successful Hosting of the June Korea-Africa Summit

President Yoon Suk-yeol met with ministerial and vice-ministerial officials from five African countries who visited Seoul to attend the 3rd Democracy Summit ministerial meeting, the Presidential Office announced on the 19th.
On the afternoon of the same day, President Yoon met at the Presidential Office with Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Gambia; Ana Comoana, Minister of State Administration and Public Service of Mozambique; Manish Gobin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mauritius; John Tanuoi, Vice Minister of Information and Communication Technology and Digital Economy of Kenya; and Boitumelo Sendi Gopamodimo, Vice Minister of the Presidential Office of Botswana.
President Yoon evaluated that these five countries share the universal value of democracy with South Korea and have formed close friendly relations, expressing hope to strengthen cooperation in various fields to develop democracy for future generations.
He also stated that the Korea-Africa Summit, to be held for the first time on June 4th and 5th, will be a meaningful occasion to dramatically elevate the relationship between Korea and Africa and discuss the future that both sides will create together.
He added, "Our government is making every effort to ensure that practical and substantial cooperation with African countries can be expanded through the summit," and requested the interest and cooperation of African countries for the successful hosting of the Korea-Africa Summit.
The ministerial and vice-ministerial officials from the five African countries evaluated the successful hosting of the Democracy Summit and said that Korea’s experience of achieving both economic growth and democracy serves as a great example for Africa, including the five countries.
Furthermore, they said, "There is high expectation and interest from the African side regarding the Korea-Africa Summit to be held in June," and added, "We will actively play a role and provide support for the successful hosting of the summit."
