"Why No Allowance?" Son Wielding Weapon, Prosecutors Seek 10-Year Prison Sentence

The prosecution has requested the court to impose a heavy sentence on a son who was prosecuted for stabbing his mother with a weapon because she did not give him pocket money.

On the 18th, at the 13th Criminal Division of the Seoul Northern District Court (Chief Judge Lee Tae-woong), during the sentencing hearing for Kim Mo (25), a man in his 20s accused of attempted matricide, the prosecution demanded a 10-year prison sentence and requested 5 years of probation.

The prosecution stated, "Although the defendant is a first-time offender and has a hearing impairment, he stabbed the victim, his mother, multiple times with a weapon, making the nature of the crime very serious," explaining the reason for the sentence request.

The mother, Ms. A, appeared as a witness at the trial that day and appealed, "On the day of the crime, I went to my son's house, and because he said I was not making food quickly enough, he suddenly committed such an act with a weapon," adding, "He is my son, but I hope he is punished."

Kim has been detained and on trial for stabbing Ms. A multiple times with a weapon in his studio apartment in a villa in Dobong-gu, Seoul, on November 5 of last year.

Police investigation revealed that Kim had frequent conflicts with his mother, including disputes over pocket money before the crime.
