The Democratic Party Election Commission announced on the 19th that lawyer Jo was confirmed as the candidate for the Gangbuk-eul primary.

Jo defeated Park in the primary held over two days starting the previous day, which combined 70% of the nationwide party members' votes and 30% of the Gangbuk-eul district party members' votes.

Jo currently serves as a director of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation and has previously been the secretary-general of the Lawyers for a Democratic Society (Minbyun) and an aide to Lee Jeong-hee, former leader of the Unified Progressive Party.

While Representative Park faced a penalty of a 30% deduction in primary votes for being in the bottom 10% of incumbent lawmaker evaluations, lawyer Jo received a 25% bonus for being a woman and a newcomer.
