Sookmyung Women's University President Jang Yoon-geum... Digital Literacy Expert Leading University Education Innovation

Jang Yoon-geum, president of Sookmyung Women's University, was born in 1961 and graduated from the Department of Library and Information Science at Sookmyung Women's University. She completed her master's degree in Library and Information Science at Indiana University in the United States and earned her doctorate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Since joining Sookmyung Women's University as a professor in the Department of Library and Information Science in 2004, she has served as the director of the Sookmyung Leadership Development Institute, the Asia-Pacific Women’s Information and Communication Institute, and the Leadership Liberal Arts Education Institute. Externally, she has been active as a member of the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, a policy advisory member of the Korea Education and Research Information Service, and co-organizing chairperson of the next generation at the 66th United Nations DPI·NGO Conference. In 2023, she was inaugurated as the 24th president of the Korean Council for Private University Presidents.


During her tenure as director of the Asia-Pacific Women’s Information and Communication Institute, she focused on projects to strengthen the leadership and IT capabilities of women in the Third World. She also worked to enhance students’ global competencies by opening classes on global leadership that involved participation from diplomatic envoys of various countries.


In particular, President Jang is recognized as an expert well-versed in the fields of knowledge information and digital literacy, and is credited with leading the future university education innovation movement by participating early in online education platforms such as MOOCs. After her inauguration, she established the Digital Information Innovation Office to build data-driven education and decision-making systems.
