'Apple 1 Bag 9,980 Won'... Coupang Prevents 'Applelation'

1.5kg Motnani Apples 9,980 KRW
1.2kg Seongju Chamoe 11,900 KRW
900 Tons of Fruit Secured... Large-Scale Discount Event

As prices for groceries such as fruits and vegetables soar, Coupang is launching a fruit discount event to ease the burden on shoppers.

Coupang announced on the 19th that it will hold the 'Season Fruit Chance' event, offering discounts on seven types of fruits including tomatoes, apples, and strawberries through Rocket Fresh. To prepare for this week-long event starting from the 18th, Coupang has purchased an additional 900 tons of fruits such as tomatoes, apples, Korean melons (chamoe), oranges, and mandarins.

Coupang has been using its own budget to discount fruit prices and provide benefits to Wow members. From the 12th to the 17th, it purchased about 450 tons of fruits including strawberries, oranges, and Korean melons to sell at the lowest prices. All event products were sold out.

Coupang is now holding an encore discount event with twice the quantity compared to last week. This is to repay the support from Wow members for the fruit discount event that ended last week. Coupang Wow members can purchase popular fruit products such as tomatoes and apples at more reasonable prices.

During this week’s event, additional discount coupons can be used on top of the discounted prices: ▲800 KRW off strawberries ▲1,500 KRW off tomatoes ▲2,000 KRW off imperfect apples and Korean melons.

The representative products of the event, based on prices after applying discount coupons, include ▲1.5 kg of imperfect apples for 9,980 KRW ▲1.2 kg of Seongju sugar-selected Korean melon for 11,900 KRW ▲1 kg of fully ripe tomatoes for 6,660 KRW ▲a tray of large strawberries for 6,590 KRW. In addition, customers can find uniformly high-quality fruits inspected by Rocket Fresh such as high-sugar oranges, Chilean green grapes, Hallabong, and Cheonhyehyang.

Coupang expects the Season Fruit Chance event to be a great help to Wow members amid continuously rising prices. Last month, consumer prices rose 3.1% compared to the previous year. Agricultural product prices, which directly and indirectly affect perceived inflation, contributed to more than 80% of the overall price increase in February. In particular, fresh fruit prices surged over 42% last month, reaching the highest level in 32 years and 5 months.

A Coupang official said, "We prepared this promotion so that more Wow members can purchase fruits at affordable prices than during the previous Season Fruit Chance event. We will continue to prepare various promotions to support Wow members in this era of high inflation."

Season Fruit Chance event products can be found by searching keywords such as tomato, imperfect apple, Korean melon, strawberry, orange, grape, and Hallabong on the Coupang app.
