As the deadline for the Glocal University 30 project, which provides 100 billion KRW in support to local universities over five years, approaches in three days, Chosun University is accelerating its efforts for a new challenge by merging with Chosun Institute of Technology and partnering with domestic and international organizations and associations.
On the afternoon of the 19th, Chosun University held a business agreement ceremony in the main building for the integration with Chosun Institute of Technology, agreeing to take steps together to lead the local era by nurturing resident talent and guiding the local community through the synergy of the integration. Last year, Chosun University signed an MOU for integration with Chosun Nursing University, thereby completing the integration of three universities within the corporation into one university.
The ceremony was attended by Kim Isu, Chairman of the Chosun University Foundation; Kim Chunsung, President of Chosun University; Cho Soon-gye, President of Chosun Institute of Technology; and other university officials.
The two universities promised ▲ joint operation of the integrated university for nurturing talent to revitalize the region ▲ establishment of a university development vision for the integration of the universities.
Meanwhile, Chosun University declared an alliance with four universities?Gwangju University, Gwangju Women’s University, Nambu University, and Songwon University?and decided to jointly challenge the Glocal University 30 project. They plan to jointly nurture regional talent and establish a unified decision-making governance for the allied universities.
The reason for the alliance of these five universities is the will to contribute to regional development by fostering resident talent and nurturing Gwangju’s specialized industries through solidarity among local universities amid crises such as the declining school-age population.
Thus, a total of seven universities (5+2) will cooperate and create synergy, bringing them one step closer to being designated as Glocal University 30.
Additionally, Chosun University has completed business agreements with over 1,700 domestic and international organizations and associations to develop together with the local community and expand its activities globally.
Recently, it signed agreements with Changwon Hanmaeum Hospital, Gwangju Women and Family Foundation, Korea Artificial Intelligence Association, and Gwangju ESG Startup Intelligence Association, promising mutual growth between the university and the region. It also partnered with the World Kimchi Research Institute and the World Korean Trade Association to join forces, aiming to globalize the local university and pioneer global networks.
Furthermore, Chosun University holds the ‘Education Development Special Zone Council’ and the ‘University Regional Balanced Talent Nurturing Support Council’ with Gwangju City, continuously discussing sustainable development plans between local governments and universities. It also agreed with the Gwangju City Council to pursue sharing and coexistence through innovation.
Kim Chunsung, President of Chosun University, said, “We have become a true family through the integration with Chosun Institute of Technology. If the two universities cooperate, we can achieve even greater things beyond the Glocal University 30 project.” He added, “I hope the two universities will work together to become the best university in Honam.”
