Ildong Pharmaceutical Group's health functional food business affiliate, Ildong Bioscience, has obtained U.S. safety certification for two types of probiotic raw materials.
On the 19th, Ildong Bioscience announced that it had acquired its own verification safety raw material certification (GRAS) for probiotic raw materials in the United States. GRAS is a system that verifies the safety of new food ingredients entering the U.S. market and is considered one of the important standards indicating the safety, reliability, and quality level of raw materials.
Ildong Pharmaceutical received GRAS certification for two types of raw materials: heat-treated cultured dried substance of Bifidobacterium breve (IDCC4401), an individually recognized functional ingredient by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety related to improving blood cholesterol, and Lactobacillus bulgaricus (IDCC3601), which helps intestinal health.
With this, Ildong Pharmaceutical has secured a total of 21 U.S. self-verified GRAS raw materials, including the two types that obtained the higher-level U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) GRAS certification and the two additional types this time. As the number of local companies requiring GRAS certification is increasing in the U.S. recently, it is explained that this will secure reliability and marketability.
An official from Ildong Bioscience said, "Through this additional certification, we have secured one of the largest numbers of GRAS-certified raw materials in the domestic industry." He added, "In addition to U.S. self-verified GRAS and FDA GRAS, we are enhancing the value of raw materials and seeking differentiation through certifications such as Canada's Natural Health Products (NPN), Halal certification, and Kosher certification tailored to the characteristics of overseas markets."
