Ms. A said she knew her son had a girlfriend since last fall, and although he was not very affectionate, she thought it was cute and lovely whenever he talked about his girlfriend. However, when she actually found the condom, she felt overwhelmed and worried that her son might harm someone else's precious daughter. She said she kept feeling like a guilty parent.

She continued, "I haven't talked to my son about it yet, and I don't know whether to just pretend I don't know or how to bring it up," adding, "I haven't told my husband either and have been worrying alone." She also said, "I will get help from my husband, but he will probably be flustered since this is his first time dealing with such a situation," and asked netizens for wise advice from experienced mothers on what to say to her child.

Contrary to the mother's mixed feelings, most netizens positively evaluated the son's attitude of carrying condoms, saying, "It's fortunate that a condom was found," and "Using contraceptives is a hundred times better than causing a pregnancy." Some netizens also expressed the opinion that "True education is teaching them to engage in relationships only when they become adults and can take responsibility for the consequences."

Controversy over 'condom' distribution at Gangwon Youth Olympic Games

Earlier, the 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (hereafter the Organizing Committee) secured 3,000 condoms for participating athletes, which sparked controversy as conservative parent groups demanded an apology from the committee. It was reported that the Organizing Committee distributed the 3,000 condoms across the Gangneung-Wonju National University Athlete Village and the High1 Athlete Village (medical offices). The condoms were not handed out individually to athletes but were displayed so that athletes who needed them could take them for free.

Some parent groups opposed this move. However, the reason the IOC distributes condoms is to prevent unwanted pregnancies and promote safe sexual practices. According to IOC policy, condoms were also provided free of charge to youth athletes at the 2018 Buenos Aires Summer Youth Olympic Games and the 2020 Lausanne Winter Youth Olympic Games.
