On the 19th, Lee Chang-yoon, the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, signed a lease contract for the Aron Airship and Shipbuilding Industry building located in the Sacheon 2nd General Industrial Complex, Sanam-myeon, Sacheon-si, Gyeongnam, which was finally selected as the temporary office building of the Space Aviation Agency in Sacheon. This came about 40 days after the preferred negotiator was selected earlier last month.

The Ministry of Science and ICT is currently conducting detailed design work for remodeling the temporary office building and plans to start remodeling construction from early April to complete the office environment setup before the opening of the Space Aviation Agency. Although the contract was delayed compared to the original schedule, the ministry explained that remodeling will be expedited through a private contract to ensure there are no issues with the opening. Approximately 300 personnel will work at the Space Aviation Agency, but it is expected to launch initially with about 100 people, including around 50 fixed-term employees.

After touring the temporary office building on the same day, Vice Minister Lee held a meeting to share necessary matters for the Space Aviation Agency’s move-in preparation and listen to on-site opinions with Park Dong-sik, Mayor of Sacheon, and officials from the Gyeongnam Provincial Government, reviewing preparations for the agency’s opening.

At the meeting, the Gyeongnam Provincial Government presented infrastructure improvement plans, including transportation, hospital, and convention center construction projects underway in preparation for the Space Aviation Agency’s opening, while Sacheon City Hall announced support policies for the agency’s relocating employees.

Vice Minister Lee urged, “To ensure the Space Aviation Agency, which has great public interest, successfully launches on May 27, the central government and local governments must cooperate closely and make thorough preparations for the opening.”
