Gyeonggi-do Cracks Down on Harmful Youth Establishments Including Modified Room Cafes for New Semester

Gyeonggi Province will conduct crackdowns until the 29th of this month on establishments restricted to youth access, such as variant room cafes and unmanned adult product stores, in response to the new school semester in March.

The crackdown targets business facilities among 'youth access and employment prohibited establishments' where there is a risk of physical contact or sexual acts, or unmanned adult product stores with inadequate supervision.

Variant room cafes are highly susceptible to being exploited for crimes due to their low prices attracting many youths, and unmanned adult product stores require crackdowns as youths can enter without adult verification.

Gyeonggi Provincial Government

Gyeonggi Province, in cooperation with city and county offices, police stations, and youth harmful environment monitoring groups, will crack down on acts such as allowing youths to enter youth access and employment prohibited establishments and failing to display notices restricting youth access and employment in youth harmful establishments.

If youths are allowed to enter or be employed in youth access and employment prohibited establishments, or if notices restricting youth access and employment in youth harmful establishments are not displayed, penalties of up to 2 years imprisonment or fines up to 20 million KRW may be imposed.

Additionally, for establishments that fail to display notices restricting youth access and employment, local governments issue correction orders, and if these are not complied with, fines of up to 3 million KRW may be imposed.

Park Geun-gyun, Director of the Lifelong Education Bureau of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "To ensure that youths can have a safe school life with the new semester, we will do our best in crackdowns on youth harmful environments in cooperation with local governments and private organizations."
